Father, Three Sons Arrested Over Alleged Murder of Farmer in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Kabiru Yusuf, and his three sons for allegedly beating a 47-year-old farmer, Yakubu Mai-Duna, to death following a dispute over farmland in Kumba Village, Sama District of Burra Emirate, Ningi Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Monday evening.

Habib, a Superintendent of Police (SP) in the statement, disclosed that incident occurred at about 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, and is being investigated as a case of criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, and culpable homicide.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the violence stemmed from a disagreement between the deceased, Yakubu Mai-Duna, and Kabiru Yusuf after Mai-Duna allegedly dumped weeds cleared from his farm into Yusuf’s farmland.

“The disagreement subsequently degenerated into a physical confrontation involving both parties and their children,” the police spokesperson stated.

The PPRO alleged that Kabiru Yusuf, alongside his three sons Abdulrazak Yusuf, 25; Safiyanu Kabiru, 20; and Salisu Kabiru, 15, jointly attacked Mai-Duna, inflicting severe injuries on him.

The police also said another resident, Usman Gagare, 48, who reportedly intervened in an attempt to rescue the victim, sustained grievous injuries during the altercation.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives attached to the Burra Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly responded to the scene. The suspects were arrested, while the victims were evacuated to the Primary Healthcare Centre, Yada-Gungume, for medical attention,” Habib said.

He added that Mai-Duna later died while receiving treatment, whereas Gagare was treated and discharged.

The police spokesperson said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for a discreet investigation and subsequent prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, urged residents to embrace peaceful dialogue and lawful means of resolving disputes rather than resorting to violence.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Bauchi State and warned against all forms of jungle justice.
