As the 2027 general elections draw nearer, political appointees and associates in various governments are preparing for the next stage of their lives and careers.

While some are pursuing new challenges, others are focused on survival.

These developments have distracted many aides from discharging their duties creditably or concentrating fully on the success of their principals.

For instance, several former commissioners, senior special assistants, personal assistants, and even a former Secretary to the Government of Bauchi State have distanced themselves from their former boss, Governor Bala Mohammed, for various reasons.

This has raised questions among political observers about whom a leader can truly trust among supporting aides to champion his or her vision.

Last week, when the administration of Senator Bala Mohammed directed politically ambitious aides to resign their appointments in line with the law, many surprisingly dumped their positions.

Most believed the government was in its final lap, with only months remaining in its eight-year tenure, and therefore saw no reason to remain loyal to the governor.

However, for the Senior Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs, Yahaya Y. M Baba, this is a time for greater commitment.

While many supporters, admirers, and associates are making plans for their future, he believes this is a period of duty and sacrifice in pursuit of his principal’s goals.

Yahaya Y. M Baba has strengthened long-term plans aimed at consolidating democratic gains for the youth, as part of Senator Bala Mohammed’s vision of raising future leaders of society.

This effort has encouraged many young people to return to school through scholarships awarded to deserving students

.Others have been integrated into learning and training institutions.In addition, hundreds of youths have secured permanent and pensionable appointments in the civil service, including placements in the health, education, police, army, and navy sectors.

Many others have received financial support to establish businesses.

Some have become successful entrepreneurs, while others have used the support to raise and sustain their families.

Another remarkable initiative is the distribution of starter packs to youths and women based on their chosen business ventures.

This programme has benefited hundreds of people across Alkaleri and Kirfi Local Government Areas.

As a result, many have called on the SSA to join the 2027 political race.

Responding to the calls, Yahaya Y. M Baba declined, saying it was too early for him to pursue any elective position.

“It is too early for me to make any political move towards seeking elective office,” he stated.

“My priority is serving my father, my boss, the people’s Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed. I thank everyone who believes in me, but let me categorically state that the scholarships I have been offering to youths and women, including the token financial support we provide, are made possible through the governor.

“Therefore, any prayers for me should be directed to our governor for giving me the rare opportunity to serve in his government”

For years, Yahaya Y. M Baba has distinguished himself as a loyal protégé of the governor and a servant of the people, a tradition for which his family has long been known.

Fertilizers have been distributed to poor farmers based on their needs, while others have been supported with tools to aid farming activities.

These are among the reasons Governor Bala Mohammed is being commended for placing the right person in the right position.

Yahaya’s humility, simplicity, and incorruptible character have also earned him a prestigious award of recognition from the Students and Progressive Youths of Arewa.

The Coordinator of the Comrade Isa Forum said it was necessary to confer the award on Yahaya Y. M Baba for his absolute loyalty to Governor Bala Mohammed and for consolidating both urban and rural empowerment programmes that have reduced poverty and improved the wellbeing of the people.
