KEDCO MD Provides Strategic Leadership Direction To Emerging Leaders
By Sani Adamu
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Kano Electricity Distribution Company, Dr. Abubakar Shuaibu Jimeta, has delivered a strategic leadership lecture at the CEO Lecture Series hosted by Skyline University Nigeria, addressing the theme “Strategic Leadership, Corporate Governance, and the Management of Complex Utility Organisations within Nigeria’s Power Sector.”
The engagement brought together students, faculty members, and industry stakeholders, providing a high-level platform for dialogue on leadership, governance, and the operational realities of Nigeria’s electricity supply industry.

The session further reinforced the importance of academia–industry collaboration in developing future-ready leaders.
In his presentation, Dr. Jimeta emphasised the critical role of mindset in effective leadership.
He noted that an overemphasis on challenges can distort strategic planning and decision-making processes, while a constructive and solution-oriented outlook enhances organisational resilience, clarity and performance outcomes.
He further underscored the importance of passion as a fundamental driver of professional excellence.

According to him, sustained commitment and innovation are only achievable when individuals are genuinely passionate about their responsibilities and continuously seek improvement within their fields.
A key highlight of the session was the interactive Question and Answer segment, which allowed participants to engage directly on sector-specific issues.
A student raised a concern regarding the inconsistency of 24-hour electricity supply for customers with prepaid meters.
In response, Dr. Jimeta provided a structured explanation of the power sector value chain, noting that supply challenges are largely influenced by generation constraints rather than distribution inefficiencies alone.
He explained that during periods of extreme heat, electricity demand increases significantly, often exceeding available generation capacity.
As a result, distribution companies such as KEDCO are constrained by the volume of energy allocated from the national grid for distribution.
He reiterated that addressing such challenges requires coordinated improvements across the entire power ecosystem, particularly in generation capacity and infrastructure stability.
The lecture concluded with a strong emphasis on leadership development, stakeholder understanding, and the need for informed engagement in addressing sectoral challenges.
The CEO Lecture Series continues to serve as a strategic platform for knowledge exchange, leadership development, and strengthening the bridge between academia and industry in Nigeria’s evolving power sector.
