BOGAA Moves Toward World-Class Status as Bauchi Invests in Oil and Gas Training

The Rector of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy (BOGAA), Alkaleri, Dr. Ahmed Sulaiman Yaro, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to becoming a world-class centre for oil and gas training, in line with the confidence reposed in its management by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.

Established in 2020 following the discovery of oil in the Kolmani River Valley, BOGAA was created to equip youths with critical skills for emerging opportunities in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

The Academy commenced operations in September 2022 and currently runs from a temporary site at Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, with plans underway to relocate to its permanent campus in Alkaleri.

Dr. Yaro said the Academy has made significant progress, including the development of ICT and e-learning facilities, deployment of a student registration portal, and recruitment of staff to drive its take-off plans.

 Academic programmes span professional certificates, diplomas, and vocational training in areas such as welding, pipe fitting, computer studies, and electrical installation.

He added that BOGAA has established collaborations with key institutions like the Petroleum Training Institute and is working closely with regulatory bodies including the National Board for Technical Education to ensure quality and accreditation of its programmes.

So far, over 350 students have enrolled in its vocational programmes, supported by a 50% tuition subsidy from the Bauchi State Government. The institution is also advancing infrastructure development at its permanent site, with budgetary provisions already made for key facilities.

Describing BOGAA as the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria, the Rector called on stakeholders, private organisations, and philanthropists to support the Academy through infrastructure development, equipment donation, and student sponsorship.

He emphasized that the Academy is poised to play a critical role in reducing youth unemployment and preparing a skilled workforce for the oil and gas industry in the region.
