Governor Bala Mohammed Mourns Bamanga Tukur, Hails His Contributions to Nigeria
From Paul Orude Bauchi
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of elder statesman and former Governor of the old Gongola State, Alhaji (Dr.) Bamanga Tukur.
Tukur, who also served as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was described by the governor as a distinguished public servant and political leader whose contributions to Nigeria’s development and democratic governance would remain indelible.
In a condolence message issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed said Tukur devoted a significant part of his life to serving the people and the nation.
He said the late elder statesman provided leadership and counsel at critical moments in Nigeria’s political history, adding that his experience, wisdom, humility and commitment to public service earned him respect across political divides.
Governor Mohammed commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased, his associates and political colleagues, as well as the Adamawa State Government and the people of Adamawa State over the loss.
“The death of Alhaji (Dr.) Bamanga Tukur is a great loss not only to his immediate family but also to the people of Adamawa State and Nigeria as a whole.
“He was a statesman of considerable experience and wisdom, whose contributions to public service and democratic politics will continue to be remembered,” the governor said.
Governor Mohammed said his family, the Bauchi State Government and the people of the state shared in the grief of Tukur’s family at the difficult moment.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, reward his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
He also prayed for strength and fortitude for the deceased’s family, loved ones and others mourning his death.
The governor urged the family to take solace in the remarkable legacy of service left behind by the late elder statesman and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Tukur was a prominent Nigerian politician and administrator who served as Governor of the old Gongola State and later as National Chairman of the PDP.
