The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Jafar Mohammed, over the alleged abduction and rape of a 16-year-old girl.

The suspect, a resident of Zango Ward in Bauchi, was arrested in October 2026 at Hayin Rigasa axis of Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State following an intelligence-led investigation.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.

According to the statement, the command received a written petition on September 3, 2026, from a 35-year-old woman of Makwalla Ward, Bauchi, who reported that her younger sister had been missing since August 5.

The police said efforts to locate the missing girl had initially proved unsuccessful.

The statement added that detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) tracked the victim’s GSM number and discovered that the phone was in the possession of the suspect in Abuja.

The police further stated that the girl returned home on August 8, 2026, and alleged that Mohammed had deceitfully lured her away under the pretext of marrying her before having sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

The suspect was subsequently arrested in Kaduna State and, according to the police, confessed to the allegations during interrogation.

The case is currently under investigation at the Gender Laboratory of the SCID in Bauchi.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence and abuse against minors, assuring the public that justice would be served.

He also urged parents to closely monitor their children and wards.

The police said investigations into the case were ongoing.
