From Muazu Hardawa, Bauchi
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has approved the provision of official vehicles for Magistrates and Upper Shari’a Court judges across the state, alongside plans to review their salaries and allowances.
The Governor gave the directives during the opening ceremony of the 2026/2027 Legal Year held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
He directed the relevant authorities to work out modalities for the purchase of official vehicles for the judicial officers and review their remuneration in line with what obtains in other states.
The decisions are expected to address transportation challenges facing judicial officers, improve their security and enhance the effective discharge of their judicial responsibilities.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Hon. Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, disclosed plans to establish additional High Court divisions in Ningi, Misau, Toro and Azare.
The proposed expansion is aimed at bringing justice closer to the people, improving access to judicial services and reducing delays in the administration of justice.
Justice Umar also revealed that the Bauchi State Judiciary generated and remitted a total of N66,574,051.55 to the state government through court fees, fines and probate charges.
The Governor’s approval of official vehicles and proposed salary review has been welcomed as an important step towards improving the welfare and working conditions of judicial officers in the state.
There have also been calls for the Chief Judge to sustain her efforts by following up with the relevant authorities to ensure that the proposed initiatives, particularly the establishment of additional High Court divisions, are implemented.
Stakeholders have stressed that the announcements should translate into tangible improvements in the welfare of judicial officers and the administration of justice across Bauchi State.
