2027: NAWOJ, Partners Sensitise Bauchi Women on On-Going Voter Registration

The National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Bauchi State chapter has organised a one-day sensitisation programme aimed at equipping women with knowledge on electoral participation and voter registration processes.
The meeting was organised in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Bauchi and the League of Women Voters in Nigeria (NILOWV), Bauchi State chaoter
In her welxome remark, the Chairperson of NAWOJ in the state, Hajia Rashida Yusuf, said the meeting was organised to empower women and encourage them to positively impact the lives of other women through active participation in the electoral process.
Yusuf stressed the need for women to remain informed about activities of the Independent National Electoral Commission, particularly as the electoral body has commenced the display of names of registered voters.
According to her, women must ensure they understand the electoral process and take advantage of opportunities provided by INEC to register, update their records and participate fully in elections.
The NAWOJ Chaierperson welcomed participants and wished them fruitful deliberations.
Also speaking, the Chairperson of (NILOWV) Hajia Zianab Mohammed,, said the group had intensified efforts to ensure greater inclusion of women in politics and governance.
Mohammed explained that the organisation had commenced awareness campaigns, including radio programmes, to sensitise women on the importance of participating in the democratic process.
“We want women to be included l, to vote and be voted for too. We want to see women actively participating in the political system regardless of political party affiliations,” she said.
On her part, the Gender Desk Officer of INEX in the state, Naomi Yusuf, said INEC advocates full and meaningful representation of women in the electoral process at all levels.
Yusuf noted that women’s voices would only be heard when they actively participate in politics beginning from the polling unit level up to the state and national levels.
She described the media as a critical partner in voter education and awareness creation, noting that most information available to the public is disseminated through the media.
She disclosed that INEC had continued voter registration and updates of PVCs across the state,
