Gov Agbu Kefas Launches Climate-Smart Drive, Establishes New Agro-Climatic Agency in Taraba

By Andrew Ojih, Jalingo.
In a bid to push toward environmental sustainability and agricultural transformation, Taraba state governor, Agbu Kefason Friday launched a package of climate-smart initiatives.
The event which took place in Jalingo brought together government officials, community leaders, farmers, and development partners to witness the rollout of clean energy programmes, waste management projects, and the distribution of modern agricultural equipment designed to boost productivity while strengthening climate resilience.
Kefes during the event gave approval for institutional upgrade of the state’s sustainable Plan for Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL).
He highlighted that the initiative has now evolved into a full fledged institutional framework to be known as the Taraba State Agro-Climatic and Watershed Management Agency.
He emphasized that environmental protection, watershed restoration, climate adaptation, and sustainable agricultural support would no longer function as temporary interventions.
“Instead, they will operate under a permanent government institution dedicated to safeguarding Taraba’s natural resources and supporting vulnerable communities” he said.
He described the launch as a defining moment for the state, stressing prsentation of cheques to beneficiaries was a great milestone in the history of Taraba state.
He added that the gesture went beyond compensation, symbolizing responsibility, fairness, and the administration’s firm resolve to ensure that development initiatives respect the dignity and livelihoods of citizens.
“In a practical demonstration of this commitment, tractors, farm implements, water pumps, and other agricultural equipment were distributed to farmers and community groups.
The intervention is expected to enhance mechanized farming, improve water management, and strengthen food security across the state” he hinted.
The ceremony underscored the administration’s broader development vision one that aligns environmental stewardship with economic empowerment.
