IWD: Bauchi NAWOJ Honours Five Journalists For Dedication To Duty, Union Activities

In line with Goal 5 of the sustainable development goals which is achieving gender equality and and empower all women and girls, Bauchi state Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) honoued Five of its members for dedicating themselves to duty and activities of the union.


In the same vein, the publisher of Alheri Newspapers, Mu’azu Hardawa, in line with the Aspiration six of the African Development Goals which is People driven, relying on the potential of African people especially it’s women and youth has presented an award of excellence to the State chairperson NAWOJ, Hajiya Rashida Yusuf for her immense contribution to the practice of journalism.

Speaking at the 2025 international Women’s Day celebration, the chairperson of the association, commended the awardees for sacrificing a lot to the development and unity of the association.

According to her, the honor done to the recipients of the award was aimed at appreciating and recognizing their immense contribution to the plight of women, especially as regards gender equality through their objective reportage.

In her presentation the Director General of the SDGs, Bauchi State, Lydia Shehu emphasised the need for women to base their equality in their intellectual capacity rather than physical strength.
She said “Gender equality is not about physical strength but the brain. Women need to be on the decision making tables. Let us diversify and break even, stop using yesterday’s method to support today’s problem, ”.

Also Facilitating, Dr Elizabeth Sab’atu Danladi enjoined members of NAWOJ to incorporate the use of SDGs and ADGs to give their report a global feel.


She said such contents would create vast awareness, promote actions on gender equality amongst others stressing that the SDG 1 to 17 have a direct impact on women, adding that gender equality should be prioritised to boost participation in all facets of human endeavour.
Dr Danladi also advocated for proper mentorship amongst women Journalists and emphasized partnership in areas of capacity building, mentorship and idea generation.

The Awardees are Beatrice Gondyi of the Correspondents Chapel, Saadatu Shall from Globe FM, and Fibi Kafi from BATV Chapels.
Others are Diana Yohanna from Information and Zainab Abdullahi Dass BRC chapels.
