Arms proliferation: Nigerian Legion Partners FG Security Agency to tackle menace

The Nigerian Legion, Borno state chapter has partnered with the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, (NCCSALW) under the Office of the National Security Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to tackle the proliferation of illicit small arms and weapons across the NorthEast region.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Adamu (Rtd), the Northeast Zonal Director, NCCSALW, Major M.A Tijjani (Rtd), Chairman Nigerian Legion Borno State Council, said that the visit is aimed at strengthening cooperation and discussing areas of mutual interest in promoting peace, security, and community development within the North East region.
According to him, the retired military personnel would join forces with the Centre in ensuring that the proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons was completely eradicated within the region.
He promised to work closely with the Centre in order to tackle the menace once and for all by sharing information with the centre as well as sensitization in strategic locations.
In his response, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Adamu (Rtd), the Northeast Zonal Director of NCCSALW, commended them for the partnership and promised to effectively work with them to ensure an arms-free society.
He added that the active involvement of experienced retired military personnel would significantly help to tackle insecurity as well as the proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons.
He explained that the proliferation of arms and weapons fuels banditry, kidnapping, cultism, political thuggery, insurgency and other crimes.
Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Adamu (Rtd), emphasized that the Centre was working in collaboration with all stakeholders in the country to mop up all Small Arms and Light Weapons for onward destruction, adding that the the Centre has been mandated by the federal government to prosecute any individual involved in the proliferation of illicit weapons in the country and is therefore seeking for more support and collaboration from all stakeholders in the country.
