One person has been killed and six others injured following a violent clash between youths of Buskuwa and Mabani communities in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The Bauchi State Police Command, which confirmed the incident, said it had arrested one suspect while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other persons involved in the violence.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Nafiu Habib, the incident began on Monday, August 25, 2026, when three youths from Mabani -Babangida Musa, 20; Usman Abdu, 20; and Ya’u Muhammad, 18 – were allegedly attacked by unidentified youths suspected to be from Buskuwa.

Habib, a Superintendent of Police, said the three victims were reportedly attacked with sticks while on their way to Buskuwa and sustained varying degrees of injuries.

He said further that the incident later triggered a reprisal attack at about 10 pm when one Jumba Adamu allegedly mobilised youths from Mabani to Buskuwa, where residents were attacked with sticks.

According to him, during the reprisal attack, Muhammadu Dare was reportedly killed on the spot, while several others sustained injuries.

The police said operatives of the Gamawa Division, working with hunters and vigilante groups, responded swiftly after receiving the report and evacuated the injured victims and the deceased to the General Hospital, Gamawa.

The attending medical doctor subsequently certified Dare dead, while three injured persons were admitted for treatment. Another three victims were treated and discharged.

The Command said one suspect had so far been arrested in connection with the incident, while efforts were being intensified to identify and arrest other suspects.

It added that preliminary investigation had commenced and the case file would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and prosecution upon conclusion of the initial inquiry.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the violence and directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to strengthen conflict-resolution mechanisms and intelligence-led patrols across the affected areas.

He urged community leaders and residents of Buskuwa and Mabani to maintain peace and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, warning that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across Bauchi State.
