A women’s advocacy group, the Women Coalition for Sustainable Peace and Viable Democratic Gains in Bauchi State, has called for greater democratic inclusion and fairness in the emerging political arrangements in Bauchi State.

In an open letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leadership of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), and other key political stakeholders, the coalition urged leaders to ensure that the democratic process reflects the genuine will of the people and promotes inclusive governance.

The coalition therefore advocated for the emergence of a credible female candidate for the position of deputy governor in Bauchi State, arguing that such a step would strengthen gender inclusion and broaden democratic representation.

Speaking on behalf of the group, its National Coordinator, Hajiya Addaji Muhammad, said copies of the letter had been formally delivered to the Presidency, the APC national leadership, and relevant state party organs.

“Bauchi State deserves leadership that restores public confidence, promotes peace, and creates meaningful opportunities for women and youths,” she said.

“Bauchi State deserves leadership that restores public confidence, promotes peace, and creates meaningful opportunities for women and youths,” she said.

The group said its intervention was informed by consultations and grassroots assessments across Bauchi State, which it claimed revealed growing public concern over governance outcomes, socio-economic hardship, and limited development impact in several communities.

According to the coalition, many citizens continue to face challenges such as unemployment, weak empowerment structures, and inadequate social support systems, conditions it said have heightened demands for responsive and people-centered leadership.

She stressed that political stability and democratic legitimacy depend largely on inclusion and respect for the electorate’s aspirations.

Hajiya Muhammad cautioned against what she described as political imposition, insisting that sustainable electoral success can only be achieved through fairness, justice, and popular acceptance rather than elite-driven arrangements.

The group also presented its assessment of the current political landscape, stating that one figure consistently stood out in terms of grassroots acceptance and engagement with constituents.

While maintaining its non-partisan stance, the coalition declared Senator Shehu Buba Umar as the most viable aspirant based on perceived performance, accessibility, and community-level interventions across Bauchi State.

It noted that its conclusion was drawn from field consultations and political viability assessments, not partisan sentiment.

The coalition maintained that Senator Umar’s public engagement and constituency outreach compared favourably with other political actors in the state, making him widely acceptable across different groups.

It concluded by urging political leaders to prioritise justice, inclusivity, and national interest in their decisions, expressing hope that such values would guide preparations toward the 2027 elections in Bauchi State and beyond.
