The management of Dolphin Maria College, Bauchi, has finally resolved its dispute with student Mussadik Jamilu Bature following pressure from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Bauchi Axis, allowing him to sit for his examinations.
This was contained in a press briefing issued by the Executive Chairman of NANS Bauchi Axis, Comrade Aliyu Musa, after the association issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the school management over the matter.
According to the statement, NANS engaged relevant stakeholders, including the Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, Abdulkadir Chikasoro, to ensure a fair resolution of the issue.
The association said the Commissioner treated the matter with urgency and demonstrated commitment to the advancement of education and students’ welfare.
NANS also held discussions with the Director of Dolphin School, Barrister Muhammed Alhassan, during which the school management explained the reasons behind its earlier action against the student.
“After deliberations, it was agreed that Mussadik Jamilu Bature would be allowed to sit for his examinations, with the understanding that he would later take a mock examination after completing the main exams,” the statement said.
The association appealed to the school management to ensure that the student writes his examinations in a peaceful and conducive environment free from intimidation, harassment, humiliation, or victimization.
NANS commended the school director for prioritizing justice and education above personal sentiments, describing the resolution as a positive step toward protecting students’ rights.
The association also praised the intervention of the Commissioner for Education, noting that his leadership played a crucial role in resolving the dispute.
“NANS remains committed to protecting the rights and welfare of Nigerian students while promoting dialogue, fairness, and mutual understanding in educational institutions,” the statement added.
