Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has distributed 156 official vehicles to 14 newly appointed emirs and 114 district heads as part of efforts to strengthen traditional institutions and improve grassroots governance.

Recall the governor had earlier, in October 2025, approved the creation of 13 new emirates, one chiefdom, and 114 district districts in a bid to bring governance closer to the grassroots  and deepen administrative reach at the local level.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony at Rilwanu Adamu Square,  Mohammed explained that the vehicles were provided to enhance the effectiveness of traditional rulers, enabling them to better serve their communities, facilitate engagement, and strengthen coordination with government authorities.

Mohammed emphasized the vital role of traditional rulers in sustaining peace, promoting unity, and driving development initiatives, noting that improved mobility would help them respond more efficiently to local needs.

Under the initiative, each of the 14 emirs received a GMC SUV, a Toyota bus, and a Mitsubishi pick-up truck, while the 114 district heads were each allocated a Toyota Camry to support their administrative duties.

The governor urged beneficiaries to use the vehicles responsibly, uphold integrity, and work collaboratively with government to foster harmony and sustainable development across the state.

He also revealed that construction of palaces for the newly created emirates and chiefdom has commenced, with a target for completion within six months.

Additionally, he disclosed that the government is reviewing the remuneration and welfare packages of traditional rulers to reflect their expanding responsibilities.

Mohammed further stated that statutory allocations of between four and six percent from local governments to emirates are being implemented, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability in managing such funds.

He advised traditional rulers to remain within their domains and avoid partisan political activities.

The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, described the initiative as a demonstration of the state’s commitment to inclusive governance, noting that the legislature had provided the legal backing for the new traditional structures.

In his remarks, the Emir of Bauchi and Chairman of the State Council of Emirs, Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, commended the governor’s efforts, describing the development as a major milestone for traditional institutions.

Adamu urged the newly appointed emirs and district heads to uphold the dignity of their offices and contribute to peace and development, while expressing appreciation for the government’s continued support.
