Bala Mohammed Meets Traditional Rulers, Security Chiefs Over Emerging Threats in Bauchi

From Paul Orude, Bauchi
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, on Monday held a closed-door expanded security meeting with traditional rulers and heads of security agencies in the state to deliberate on emerging security concerns.
The meeting, held at the Government House, Bauchi, brought together all traditional rulers in the state, including newly installed emirs, alongside key security chiefs and government officials.
It was aimed at strengthening collaborative efforts toward preventive security management.
In his opening remarks, Governor Mohammed welcomed the traditional rulers and security stakeholders, describing their presence as a demonstration of shared responsibility and commitment to peace, unity, and stability in the state.
He explained that the meeting was expanded beyond routine security briefings to include all traditional rulers in recognition of their vital role in grassroots governance and early warning mechanisms.
The governor noted that Nigeria is facing complex and evolving security challenges, including banditry, cross-border crimes, misinformation, and communal tensions, which often start as minor incidents before escalating if not promptly addressed.
While acknowledging that Bauchi State remains relatively peaceful, he cautioned against complacency, stressing that the state’s geography, porous borders, forests, markets, and population mobility require constant vigilance.
Governor Mohammed emphasized that the meeting was convened as a preventive measure, urging traditional rulers to strengthen intelligence gathering and ensure timely information sharing with security agencies.
He reaffirmed that traditional institutions are key partners in governance and security, warning that acts such as illegal land allocation, harboring criminals, or interfering with security operations would not be tolerated.
The governor commended security agencies for their dedication and called for sustained collaboration among all stakeholders to maintain peace and prevent security threats from escalating in Bauchi State.
