Bawa who stated this during a media chart with journalists in Jalingo debunked speculations that the party has rolled out automatic tickets for first-term governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, and state assembly members seeking re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He hinted that he was not aware of any such decision by the party, stressing that candidates must emerge through consensus or voting during the party’s primaries.
Bawa who said his emergence as APC chairman in Taraba was a divine mandate maintained that he will restore trust in the party.
“As Chairman of Apc in Taraba, I will work tirelessly to adhere to processes and strengthen grassroots investment in political decision-making.
Any aspirants who wants to win election must not rely solely on party leadership for their political ambitions, they must engage with supporters at the grassroots level” he said.
He tasked aspirants who intend to contest in the coming elections to focus their efforts on the grassroots.
Votes in the party primaries will come from grassroots politicians, whether through consensus or otherwise,” he noted.
According to him, the APC in Taraba is witnessing an influx of politicians from other parties, noting that providing equal opportunities for aspirants would strengthen confidence in the party.
“We have many people decamping from other political parties into the APC. The only way to restore confidence among politicians is to provide them with the opportunity to contest. We will ensure that all aspirants go through democratic processes” he added.
