The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Federal University Gashua Branch (ASUUFUGA), has elected Comrade Ali Bulama as its new Chairperson, following a smooth and orderly election held at the institution.

The election, which was supervised by a zonal official of ASUU from Yobe State University, was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere and recorded impressive turnout from members. Some academic staff traveled long distances, while others took time off their study leave to participate, a gesture that highlighted the unity and commitment within the union.

Bulama, in his appreciation message, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, congratulatory messages, and prayers he received from colleagues. He pledged not to betray the confidence reposed in him, promising to prioritize the welfare of members and ensure that ASUUFUGA continues to progress.

“ASUUFUGA must move higher, the right thing must be done, the welfare of congress must be improved and sustained, our rights must be given, and our privileges must be handed to us,” Bulama assured.

Many colleagues poured encomiums on the new chairperson, describing him as a dedicated and principled unionist who will build on the achievements of his predecessor.

Bulama takes over from Dr. Abacha Melemi, who served the branch meritoriously as Chairperson for eight years. His tenure is widely regarded as a period of stability and growth for the union.

The election marks the beginning of a new chapter for ASUUFUGA, with members optimistic that Bulama’s leadership will consolidate on past gains and steer the branch to greater heights.
