Youths Issue 30-Day Ultimatum to Delta Govt Over Abandoned Ukala-Okwute–Ezi–Ebu–Ukala Okpunor Road

Youths from Ukala-Okwute, Ezi, Ebu, and Ukala-Okpunor in Oshimili North and Aniocha North Local Government Areas have given the Delta State Government a 30-day deadline to commence work on the long-abandoned Ukala-Okwute–Ezi–Ebu–Ukala Okpunor Road.

Operating under the Concerned Youth for Good Governance (CYGG), the protesters staged a peaceful demonstration at Interbau Roundabout, Asaba, decrying “years of government neglect” which they said has crippled economic activities, endangered lives, and isolated communities.

The group demanded an official statement from the government within seven days, a leadership meeting to discuss solutions, immediate mobilisation of contractors, a clear project timeline, regular updates to residents, and strict quality control to ensure durability.

“Our protest is peaceful and rooted in constructive engagement. We are ready to work with the government, but we will not remain silent while our people suffer,” said group spokesperson, Comrade Henry Imuma. He described the road as a lifeline connecting communities to markets, schools, health centres, and other essential services.

Responding, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Prince Johnson Erijo, commended the peaceful approach and assured the youths that the Oborevwori administration would address the matter, especially as the dry season approaches.

Oshimili North Council Chairman, Hon. Innocent Esewezie, also praised the protest’s peaceful conduct, reiterating that the road project was already on the government’s radar.

For now, residents await tangible action from the state government before the 30-day ultimatum expires. The road remains a crucial artery for trade, transport, and community access in Delta State.
