Bala Wunti Ramadan Cup Kicks Off in Bauchi
From Paul Orude Bauchi
The much-anticipated Bala Wunti Ramadan Cup has officially commenced at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, bringing together people from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds in a spirit of unity and sportsmanship.
Speaking at the tournament’s opening ceremony on Saturday, Mr. Anas Umar, Chairman of the tournament, emphasized that the event was designed to promote peace and harmony among the people, irrespective of religious beliefs.

Umar noted that the competition also serves to celebrate Dr. Bala Wunti, a renowned figure known for his contributions to human capital development, infrastructure, and social welfare in Bauchi State.
“This initiative seeks to harness the talents and skills of young individuals, guiding them toward personal growth while contributing to the overall development of the state,” Umar stated.
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Usman Ya’u Darazo, the tournament’s organizer, reaffirmed that the primary objective of the event is to foster peace and unity among the youth while recognizing Dr. Bala Wunti’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian efforts.

He dismissed speculations about Wunti’s alleged interest in the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election, clarifying that the philanthropist remains focused on empowerment, education sponsorship, agriculture, healthcare, and food aid rather than political ambitions.
“Despite his numerous interventions, some individuals have attempted to drag his name into political discussions.
“ it serves as a clarion call for Bauchi residents to focus on transformative leadership and community service rather than political speculations

‘This tournament is a way to honor a man who has dedicated his life to serving others. Public service should be celebrated, not politicized,” Darazo emphasized.
The tournament, featuring eight teams, is expected to showcase some of the best football talents in the state, with media representatives and community leaders in attendance.
At the end of each match, participants and spectators are treated to a mini iftar (breaking of fast) to further strengthen the bond among attendees.
One of the spectators, Dauda Musa, expressed his appreciation for the organizers, stating that the competition has successfully strengthened unity among people from different ethno-religious backgrounds.
He praised the spirit of sportsmanship exhibited by the teams and expressed enthusiasm for future events that promote peace and coexistence.
