From Paul Orude Bauchi
The Vice Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University, Gadau, Bauchi State, Professor Fatimah Tahir, has stressed the importance of academic staff in ensuring academic excellence and upholding the standards of the University.
Tahir made the remark at a three-day seminar organised by the Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance of academic staff of the University.
A press statement by SAZU’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Auwal Hassan, disclosed that the seminar, which was held at the 500 Seat Lecture Theater of the main campus in Gadau, drew 75 participants from various departments of the university.
The statement quoted Professor Tahir as saying that academic staff were the backbone of the University, and their caliber is reflected in the output of the institution.
“Whatever the output of the university is, it is a reflection of the caliber of staff, especially academic staff that the university has,” Tahir said.
The VC pointed out that the quality of academic staff is evident in the quality of graduates the university produces, adding that academic staff are responsible for molding the character of students, which is why certificates carry both character and learning.
Tahir commended the Directorate of Academic Planning for initiating the seminar, which she described as an orientation for new staff members.
She said, “The seminar is expected to be done when new employments are made especially when we have those coming to the university for the first time or from other universities.”
She however urged participants to make the best use of the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge.
In his remarks, the Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar Aliyu, emphasized the importance of the seminar in achieving the university’s mission of academic excellence.
He noted that the seminar would cover key areas such as teaching, research, community service, and university administration.
Dr. Aliyu urged participants to be open-minded and receptive to new ideas, saying that the seminar would serve as an eye-opener for them.
He thanked the Vice Chancellor for her unwavering support towards conducting the workshop and for her numerous efforts towards ensuring academic excellence in the university.
The seminar is part of the university’s efforts to enhance the capacity of its academic staff and ensure that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality education.
A similar seminar is scheduled to be held at the Yuli Campus on February 17, with an additional 75 participants, bringing the total number of participants to 150.
