The Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, Isah Garba Gadau, has commended the Electoral and Credentials Committee of the Correspondents’ Chapel for conducting what he described as a credible and transparent election.

Those sworn in are Abdularauf Oyewole of The Guardian, who emerged as Chairman; Mohammed Kawu of New Nigerian Newspaper, Vice Chairman; Mohammed Nasir Shuiabu of New Telegraph, Secretary; Adamu Shehu Imam of Trust TV, Treasurer; and David Adenuga of The Nation, as Auditor.
The NUJ chairman thanked God for giving the Electoral and Credentials Committee the wisdom and strength to conduct the election with integrity, despite the challenges encountered in the process.
He also commended members of the chapel for exhibiting maturity during and after the election.
“On behalf of the State Council, I appreciate members of the chapel for the maturity they exhibited during and after the election. I urge other chapels to emulate the Correspondents’ Chapel and seek consultations whenever they want to conduct a transparent election,” Gadau said.
He assured the chapel of the State Council’s readiness to work closely with the new leadership, stressing that issues affecting the union should be addressed internally through dialogue.
Gadau particularly praised the maturity displayed by contestants who did not win, describing their conduct as exemplary.
He called for continued unity among members and urged the new executives to carry everyone along, stressing that while some candidates emerged victorious, every member remained a winner.
The NUJ chairman congratulated the newly elected executives and charged them to promote the unity and development of the union.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Electoral and Credentials Committee, Ahmed Mohammed, thanked members of the chapel for their support and cooperation throughout the electoral process.
Ahmed who is the immediate past Chairman of the Chapel, urged the new leadership to promote unity, stressing that there should be no winners or losers after the election.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Abdularauf Oyewole, called on contestants who lost the election to join hands with his administration to move the chapel forward.
Oyewole said the challenges confronting the chapel required the collective efforts of all members, irrespective of their differences during the election.
He promised that his administration would not discriminate against any member, assuring that every member of the chapel would be carried along in the affairs of the chapel.
