The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has officially launched the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme for 2026 Batch B, Stream II Corps Members deployed to Yobe State.

The launch took place at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Dazigau, Nangere Local Government Area, as part of efforts to equip Corps Members with practical skills for self-reliance after service.

Speaking during the flag-off, SAED facilitator Mr. Muhammad Sulaiman, urged Corps Members to take the training seriously and acquire skills that address needs in their host communities.

“Don’t stop at acquiring a skill. You must also study your market, understand community needs, and apply digital tools to grow your business,” Mr. Sulaiman said.

Using “Green Life Farms” as an example, he explained how identifying local problems can be turned into viable business opportunities.

Also speaking, Maryam Yahaya, Head of SAED at Dazigau Camp, encouraged Corps Members to embrace vocational, digital and financial skills to complement their academic qualifications.

She said the programme was designed to reduce dependence on white-collar jobs and promote entrepreneurship.

She advised the corps members to leverage on the SMEDAN support for businesses to turn their skills into entrepreneurship.

In a message presented by Mr. Okochi Okpara, the NYSC State Coordinator challenged Corps Members to position themselves as job creators rather than job seekers.

He said SAED was a platform for Corps Members to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute to national development.

Zonal Inspector, Mr. Muhammad Galadima, also urged the Corps Members to take responsibility for their economic future through innovation, problem-solving and continuous learning.

He noted that skills in craftsmanship and digital marketing are critical to creating wealth and employment.

The SAED programme at Dazigau Camp will run throughout the orientation period with hands-on training in various vocational and digital skill areas.
