Katagum Youth Group Urges Tinubu, APC Leadership to Review Bauchi Guber Candidature

The Katagum Youth Progressive Group (KYPG) has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, to carefully review the party’s gubernatorial candidature process in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its representative, Baba Isah Azare, the group expressed concern over the possibility of the party presenting a candidate whose previous record in public office, according to the group, was marked by inadequate infrastructure development, delayed project execution, disregard for traditional institutions, lack of transparency, and insufficient inclusion of critical stakeholders.

The group stressed that the APC must field a candidate capable of uniting party members, inspiring public confidence, and providing a credible alternative for the people of Bauchi State.

“The APC cannot afford to repeat past mistakes. Bauchi voters deserve a candidate with a proven record of performance, accountability, respect for traditional institutions, and the ability to attract widespread public support,” the statement read.

The KYPG warned that imposing an unpopular candidate could weaken the party’s electoral prospects and reduce its chances of winning the governorship election in 2027.

It therefore urged President Tinubu and the APC leadership to prioritize competence, acceptability, and grassroots support in selecting the party’s governorship candidate for Bauchi State.
