The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bauchi State Chapter, on Wednesday coducted a sensitasation session for 50 adolecent girls in Jibrin Aminu Model School in Bauchi Metropolis.

The Association also donated 60 packs of sanitary pads to the school pad bank.

However, the 50 participants also recieved the pads to encourage female child education and proper menstral hygiene and management.

The gesture was part of activities marking the 2026 World Menstrual Hygiene Day.

Speaking during the event, Chairperson of NAWOJ in the state, Mrs Rashida Yusuf, said the initiative was aimed at strengthening the knowledge and capacity of adolescent girls on menstrual hygiene.

Yusuf reminded participants to dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation.

She said the association remained committed to promoting the welfare of women and girls, particularly in the areas of health and education.

“There are lots of myths and misconception including people not eating from a Menstruating woman;this is described as taboo in some culture.

“We want girls to understand that menstruation is a natural process and that proper hygiene practices are essential for their health and wellbeing.

“This sensitisation programme will continue from time to time to ensure that girls are better informed and empowered to manage their menstrual health effectively,” she said.

She encouraged the beneficiaries to share the knowledge gained with their peers and community members.

Yusuf also urged the girls to maintain self-confidence and practice good hygiene during their menstrual periods.

In his remarks, the Principal of the school, Mr Mohammed Abdurrahman, thanked the association for the gesture and concern shown to the students.

He described the intervention as timely and beneficial, noting that it would contribute to improving the health and wellbeing of the students.

Abdurrahman assured the association that the sanitary pads donated would be judiciously utilised by the beneficiaries.
