Bauchi Guber 2027: Amb. Shuaibu Ahmed Joins Race on NNPP Platform
Sani Adamu
Nigeria’s first ambassador to Qatar, Amb. Shuaibu Ahmed, has formally declared his intention to contest the governorship of Bauchi State under the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), presenting himself as a reform-oriented candidate committed to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.
In a statement addressed to the party’s Bauchi State chapter on Wednesday, Ahmed said his decision followed extensive consultations with family members, political stakeholders, elders, and grassroots communities, describing the move as a product of deep reflection and a strong sense of responsibility to serve.
He emphasised that Bauchi State stands at a critical crossroads, requiring visionary leadership capable of addressing persistent socio-economic challenges, strengthening the security architecture, and delivering meaningful development across all sectors.
According to him, his ambition is rooted not in personal gain but in a clear understanding of the realities facing the people, coupled with a determination to implement practical policies that will improve livelihoods and restore public confidence in governance.
Reacting to the development, the NNPP Zonal Vice Chairman, North East, Alhaji Bashir Yakubu Ahmad, described Shuaibu’s entry into the race as a significant political boost, noting that his emergence reflects the party’s growing appeal and readiness to offer credible alternatives in the state’s leadership landscape.
He said Shuaibu Ahmed is joining the race with a rich background of experience.
According to the Zonal Vice Chairman North East, the aspirant was a one-time Special Assistant, Special Adviser, Honourable Commissioner, and Secretary to the Bauchi State Government.
“Additionally, he was also Nigeria’s first Ambassador to Qatar and the immediate past Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria”, he said.
Also lending his voice, the NNPP State Chairman, Abdulkareem Salisu Matori, expressed confidence in the aspirant’s capacity to drive the party’s vision, stressing that the NNPP remains committed to internal cohesion and strategic mobilization as it positions itself for a competitive and issue-based gubernatorial contest.
He said with this declaration, the NNPP has taken an early step toward positioning itself as a formidable contender in the forthcoming governorship election in Bauchi State.
