Gov. Kefas Takes Over Payment of Gratuities, Pensions for Taraba University Staff

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, on Tuesday announced that the government has taken over the payment of gratuities and pensions for staff of Taraba State University, effective January 2026.
This was contained in a press statement signed by his Commissioner of Information and Re-orientation, Barr. Zainab Usman, and made available to journalists in Jalingo.
Governor Kefas directed that all staff benefits from the university be submitted to the Office of the Head of Service, Establishment, and Records for processing and payment.
The statement noted that the government is addressing outstanding staff arrears, which it inherited at N1.865 billion. Of this, N1 billion has already been paid, leaving a balance of N865.894 million.

It also highlighted inherited liabilities for earned academic and administrative allowances, totaling N2.681 billion, of which N430 million has been paid, leaving N2.251 billion outstanding.

The statement added that on 12 March 2026, the government approved the payment of all outstanding dues, releasing N200 million the same day and N300 million on 16 March, leaving a total of N2.617 billion still due.
According to the statement, the state government has been consistent with promotion and payment of promotion arrears.
“The state government has taken over payment of full salaries as against the initial arrangement of 70% by the University and 30% by the government” the statement added.
