Urges Support for Minister of Defense

From Paul Orude Bauchi

A northern youth coalition under the aegis of Arewa Youth Advocate for Good Governance has warned against political interference in security operations, saying it poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s peace and national stability,.

Speaking at a press conference held in Bauchi on Thursday ,the group, alongside allied support organisations drawn from the 19 Northern States, expressed deep concern over what it described as persistent political distractions in national security matters.

The conference was convened under the distinguished chairmanship of the National Chairman of the organisation, Adamu Muhammad Abdullahi.

The youth leaders lamented that insecurity continues to ravage many parts of the country, particularly in the North, where farmers are unable to access their farmlands, traders face constant threats along major highways, and families are displaced from their ancestral homes.

According to the group, these challenges require professionalism, consistency, and strategic focus rather than partisan considerations.

The organisation stressed that national security should never be reduced to a political contest, warning that when security decisions are influenced by personal or political interests, ordinary Nigerians bear the consequences.

It noted that such interference risks undermining gains already recorded in the fight against insecurity.

Reaffirming its confidence in the minister of Defence, retired Lieutenant General Christopher Musa,  the group commended his leadership, experience, and commitment to restoring peace and stability across the country.

The youths insisted that the Defence leadership must be granted operational independence and institutional support to effectively carry out its mandate.

The coalition called on political leaders at all levels to place national interest above narrow ambitions, urging the Federal Government, National Assembly, and relevant authorities to respect the chain of command and strengthen institutional discipline within the security sector.

The group concluded by reaffirming its commitment to peace, unity, and good governance, vowing to continue speaking out against any action that threatens Nigeria’s stability and future.
