Bauchi Governor Didn’t  Show Disdain For Western Education – Commissioner Rebuts Reports

Bauchi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Usman Shehu, has  described  some media reports portraying Governor Bala Mohammed as anti- western education as mischievous 

Shehu explained that  the reports in some media (Not Metoric Post) making the rounds quoted the governor out of context during a public gathering when he hosted groups of youths sometime ago. 

“His Excellency, while addressing the youths admonished them to possess skills, and urged them to identify problems in their society and proffer meaningful solutions, saying that, doing these they stand a chance to fight poverty, unemployment and restiveness,” the commissioner explained further 

“Consequently, some media deliberately distorted their report,   that His Excellency rubbished western education and rather encouraged venturing into  driving.

“From the common sense this is an evidence that it is a calculated attempt to pitch Governor Bala Mohammed against the good people of Bauchi State and project him in bad light in the minds of reasonable minds. 

“For the clearance of doubt, His Excellency, the Governor has never rubbished western education. For the fact that himself coming from a family that not only appreciated western education but also took stake in promoting it looking at the background of his father as a famous headmaster during his time.

“So, the Governor is passionate about education, his huge investment in the sector butreeses his conviction, ideally, Education is among his transformative agenda.

“The key message as emphasized by  of His Excellency at that occasion was encouragement to the youth not only tofall arms while in pursuing education as that is not enough in today’s world, instead, they should strive to learn various skills to augment their 

It is worth noting that,  Senator Bala Mohammed on his inauguration day in 2019, he deeply emphasized the desire or his government to accord deserving priority and  passion towa4ds educating  the children of  Bauchi State, he instantly declared a state of emergency in three key sectors –including education. 

As part of his administration’s commitment to education, he has consistently voted lion share of the state budget to education above the UNESCO benchmanrk. Not only these, his administration has constructed, reconstructed and rehabilitated over 5,000 blocks of classrooms. This administration’s investment in education is immeasurable within the few years it came to being. 

As a government, we viewed that we shouldn’t have stooped so low to respond to these inconsequential and baseless claims against the governor who has spent over N17 billion in the sector. A governor, whose administration has consistently shouldering payment of WAEC, NECO and JAMB. It is public knowledge that this government has increased scholarship payments to about a billion –N945million. 

“We urge the good people of Bauchi State to keep supporting Bala Mohammed administration to take our dear state to greater height as contained in #MyBauchiProject of His Excellency. 

“Also, we urge the media to always be accurate in their reportage and engage in constructive criticism for the development of our state”
