Bala Mohammed Vows Not to Abandon PDP, Calls for Unity to Rebuild Party

Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that he has no intention of leaving the party despite its internal challenges.

Speculation has been rife about his possible defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress APC.

Speaking with journalists in Bauchi during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the governor dismissed speculations of a possible defection.

Mohammed, who is the Chairman , PDP Governors’ Forum, emphasised instead the need for collective efforts to rebuild and strengthen the PDP ahead of future elections.

Many PDP Governors have abandoned the party and defected to the APC ahead of 2027 elections  leaving him and his Oyo State counterpart Seyi Makinde as the last men standing in the party as governors.

Describing the challenges within the party as “not insurmountable,” Mohammed expressed confidence that they can be resolved through dialogue, strategic engagement, and genuine reconciliation among stakeholders.

“We are where we are. Politics is dynamic, but we must be strategic,” he said.

He stressed that the focus should be on repositioning the party rather than abandoning it.

The governor called on party members across the country to embrace unity and avoid divisive tendencies, noting that the PDP remains a strong platform capable of delivering credible leadership if properly managed.

He further stressed that political leadership should be anchored on vision, integrity, and service, rather than desperation for power.

According to him, the people of Bauchi are politically conscious and cannot be swayed by opportunistic politics.

Mohammed urged political actors to shun bitterness and instead promote issue-based engagement, adding that Bauchi State’s political environment must continue to reflect maturity and healthy competition.

“This is a state with a rich democratic history. We must not engage in politics of hostility. Power comes from God, and the people will always decide,” he stated.

Highlighting his administration’s inclusive approach, the governor maintained that the political space in Bauchi remains open to all, including opposition voices, without intimidation.

He also reiterated his commitment to nurturing young leaders, assuring them of opportunities to participate meaningfully in the political process.

While acknowledging existing security and socio-economic challenges, Mohammed said his government remains focused on delivering good governance through prudent resource management and sustained development initiatives.

He called on citizens to support security agencies, noting that peace and stability are essential for both political and economic progress.

In a related Eid-el-Fitr message conveyed through his Media Aide, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor urged Muslims to sustain the virtues of Ramadan by extending kindness to the less privileged and promoting peace and unity in their communities.

He described Eid-el-Fitr as a period of reflection, renewal, and recommitment to the core values of Islam, encouraging citizens to embody the teachings of Ramadan beyond the holy month.

Mohammed also called on residents to emulate the exemplary character of Prophet Muhammad whom he described as a model of mercy, justice, and humility.
