Blasphemy: Police Declare Famous Bauchi cleric Idris Abdulaziz wanted for contempt of court

The Bauchi State Police Command has declared famous Bauchi-based scholar and Chief Imam of Dutsen Tanshi Jumaat mosque, Dr Idris Abdulaziz wanted for alleged contempt of court.
Malam Idris has been on trial for alleged blasphemy in his preaching since 2022.
The embattled cleric is facing fresh charges as filed by the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in the State and the Police, for ‘inciting disturbances, insulting or inciting contempt of religious creed’ at the Chief Magistrate Court.
This was contained in the Special Police Gazette Bulletin issued by the Inspector General of Police in Bauchi on Thursday.
“The security agencies and the general public have been charged to report the whereabouts of the clergy to the Command, pledging “a handsome reward to any information that can lead to his arrest,” it read in part.
“If seen, arrest and hand over to the nearest Police Station or to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department Bauchi State Command, or call, 08151849417, 09048226246,” the Gazette with the Idris’ photograph stated
“A handsome reward awaits any person(s) with information,” it concluded.
