Bauchi: UNICEF set to mark World Toilet Day, celebrate children

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Bauchi Field Office, has lined up series of special activities to commemorate World Toilet Day and World Children Day (WCD) slated for November 19 and November 20 respectively.

This was contained in a press release signed by the UNICEF Communications Officer, Bauchi Field Office, Opeyemi Olagunju, issued to journalists in Bauchi State.

According to Olagunju, UNICEF has organize a media dialogue to advocate for open defecation free Bauchi state as parts of efforts to commemorate World Toilet Day on Wednesday.

“The media dialogue which will take place in Azare, the headquartre of Katagum Local Government Area of the state was significant Katagum was recently certified open defecation free,” he said.

“The dialogue will be an opportunity for media practitioners to familiarize with the achievement, the process to achieve it and through your reports, join the advocacy.

“The dialogue will be followed by a field trip to identified communities to enable you interact with families and stakeholders who were involved in the process to attain the status in the LGA.”

Olagunju said this year, the WCD aims to bring attention to climate change and its impact on children.

“To commemorate the World Children’s Day we will have a field trip to schools in Shira and Zaki on 17 November,” he said.

The UNICEF Communications Officer explained that schools were supported by UNICEF to incorporate climate change education into their curriculum.

“The visit will expose participants to the importance of climate change education,” he stated.

“Journalists will also have an opportunity to interact with young climate change enthusiasts.
