2023 Census: NPC Holds Stakeholders Summit in Bauchi

The National Population Commission NPC in Bauchi State has held a stakeholders summit in preparation for the 2023 Population and Housing Census to ensure everyone is counted at the right place across the country.
The Federal Commissioner Bauchi State Office of the Commission Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Darazo, assured that the census would be conducted inline with global best practices using technology in the enumeration processes.
Darazo gave the assurance at the Stakeholders Summit on 2023 Population and Housing Census held Government House, Bauchi, on Tuesday.
He said the importance of the census is not limited to identifying the accurate number of citizens but also to allow for adequate planning and distribution of resources across all the geopolitical zones.
According to him, the unique of the exercise is that both the recruitment of enumeration officers, design of the questionnaires and the housing census are technology driven, hence the engagement of the stakeholders towards the success of the exercise.
The State Governor Bala Mohammed represented by Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Aminu Hammayo, said the census is long overdue in view of the significant increase in the population especially in the Bauchi where it is witnessing influx of IDP’s due to insurgency.
Governor Mohammed directed community and religious leaders to support and cooperate with the commission towards the successful conduct of the exercise.
In their separate contributions, some of the stakeholders called on the commission to deploy all the needed machinery o ensure the exercise is generally accepted.
The summit with the theme Getting the People Involved, drew participants from security agencies, Civil Society Organizations, Traditional and Community Leaders
