Police Rescue Wife from Mob After Allegedly Stabbing Husband in Bauchi

From Paul Orude, Bauchi
A wife in Lirr Bajar community in Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State was almost lynched by a mob after allegedly stabbing her husband in the stomach during a quarrel over a wrapper, phone and money.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Command, SP Nafiu Habib, the attack almost cost the husband his life.
“On October 25, at about 0600hrs, what started as a heated argument between husband and wife turned bloody.
“Fatima Dalha, just 18 years old, confronted her 30-year-old husband, demanding her money, wrappers and phone she said were in his possession. Words failed. Tempers flared. The argument turned into a physical fight.
“In a moment of rage and desperation, Fatima reached for a knife lying close by and stabbed her husband in the stomach.”
According to the PPRO, the husband fell and was bleeding.
“The neighbourhood erupted. An angry mob gathered, ready to lynch the young woman,” he added.
“Police operatives from Dass Division raced to the scene and saved her from instant jungle justice, while rushing the wounded husband to a hospital, where he is now hospitalised and fighting to survive.
“Behind the uniform, behind the case file, are two young lives, a marriage of barely months, now shattered by anger that could have been resolved with words.”
The police spokesman disclosed that the suspect had been detained while the knife was recovered, adding that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet investigation.
“The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has expressed concern over rising domestic violence cases among young couples,” Nafiu disclosed.
“A moment of anger can destroy two lives forever. We urge couples to seek peaceful means through family, elders and lawful channels instead of resorting to violence,” the CP advised.
He warned against jungle justice and reiterated the command’s resolve to ensure that justice was served professionally and humanely.
