From Paul Orude Bauchi
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has felicitated former Military President of Nigeria, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, on his 85th birthday, describing him as an enduring figure in the country’s political and military history.
In a congratulatory message issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed congratulated General Babangida on behalf of his family, the Bauchi State Government and the people of the state.
The governor described Babangida as one of the most consequential figures in Nigeria’s national history, whose years of military and public service left a significant mark on the country.
He acknowledged the enormous responsibilities shouldered by the former military president during a particularly challenging period in Nigeria’s history, characterised by complex political, economic and social circumstances.
According to him, despite differing perspectives on various chapters of the nation’s history, Babangida’s contributions to the Nigerian state and efforts towards national unity, stability and development remain significant and worthy of historical reflection.
“At 85, Your Excellency, you stand as an enduring figure in Nigeria’s national story. Your journey through military and public service reflects a life devoted to the service of our dear nation at some of its most challenging moments,” the governor said.
Governor Mohammed also commended Babangida’s continued role as an elder statesman, particularly his contributions to national discourse and his willingness to provide counsel and guidance to successive generations of Nigerian leaders.
He noted the enduring bond of respect and affection between General Babangida and the people of Bauchi State, describing his fatherly disposition and commitment to the larger Nigerian family as deeply appreciated.
The governor prayed God to grant the former military president sound health, renewed strength and peace of mind, while wishing him many more years of fulfilment with his family, friends and the Nigerian people.
He further expressed hope that Babangida’s wealth of experience and wisdom would continue to contribute to the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria.
