The Federal Government has commissioned newly constructed female students’ hostels at the Gadau Main Campus and Yuli Campus of Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi State, under the 2024 TETFund Annual Intervention Programme.

The projects were inaugurated during the nationwide presidential commissioning of TETFund-funded projects across tertiary institutions in the country, aimed at improving educational infrastructure and enhancing the quality of learning.

Representing the Executive Secretary of TETFund at the event was the Bauchi State Commissioner for Higher Education and Regional Integration, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Malam Isa Mohammed Tahir.

The commissioned facilities consist of two modern 40-room ensuite hostels designed to provide safe, comfortable and conducive accommodation for female students at both campuses.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University, Professor Fatimah Tahir, described the projects as a significant achievement in the university’s efforts to improve students’ welfare and academic experience.

She said the provision of quality accommodation remains essential to creating a supportive learning environment and commended TETFund for its continued investment in the development of tertiary education in Nigeria.

According to her, the hostels will help address accommodation shortages, improve security and comfort for students, and contribute to better academic performance.

“These hostels represent our commitment to providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning. They will greatly enhance the welfare of our students and support their academic pursuits,” she said.

Professor Tahir also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for sustaining support for educational development through TETFund and ensuring continued investment in infrastructure across Nigerian universities.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Malam Isa Mohammed Tahir, said the projects reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to improving access to quality education and creating an enabling environment for students.

He described the hostels as facilities that will not only provide shelter but also promote personal growth, social interaction and academic success among students.

He urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the facilities and ensure their maintenance for future generations of students.

The commissioning highlights ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and TETFund to strengthen educational infrastructure and improve living and learning conditions in tertiary institutions across the country.
