Ex-Bauchi APC Governorship Candidate, Saddique Baba Abubakar, Retires from Politics
From Paul Orude Bauchi
Former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Saddique Baba Abubakar, has announced his withdrawal from active politics, citing personal reasons.
The retired Air Marshal, who contested the 2023 governorship election against incumbent governor Bala Mohammed under the APC platform, said the decision was difficult due to the overwhelming support he received from the people of Bauchi State and Nigerians since joining politics in 2021 after retiring from the Nigerian Air Force.
Saddique had recently been speculated to be preparing for another governorship bid ahead of the 2027 elections, reportedly on the platform of the Action Democratic Party (ADP).
However, in a video message delivered in Hausa on Saturday, he officially announced his exit from politics, a move that came as a surprise to many supporters and political associates.
He expressed gratitude to his followers and apologised to those disappointed by the decision, praying for Allah’s blessings upon them.
Despite stepping away from partisan politics, the former Chief of Air Staff assured the public that he would continue contributing to the development of Bauchi State through his Marshal Care Foundation, with particular focus on healthcare and education.
He also prayed for lasting peace, stability and progress in Bauchi State and Nigeria as a whole.
