Zulum Backs Gubio for 2027 Borno Governorship Race
Our Editor
Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has reportedly endorsed his former Commissioner for Works, Mustapha Gubio, as his preferred successor for the 2027 governorship election under the All Progressives Congress.
The governor’s spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, confirmed the development on Tuesday, describing Gubio as a candidate capable of sustaining and advancing the administration’s development agenda.
According to Iliya, Gubio possesses a clear understanding of the government’s vision, policies, and achievements, making him well-placed to continue ongoing reforms.
The endorsement was said to have followed a symbolic presentation of expression of interest and nomination forms by Gubio to the governor, in the presence of notable political figures, including Mohammed Tahir Monguno and party supporters.
The move has already generated reactions within APC circles in Borno State, with political observers suggesting it may intensify competition and reshape alliances ahead of the party’s 2027 governorship primaries.
