APC Talks Fail as Bala Mohammed, Bauchi PDP Explore Fresh Political Options

From Paul Orude, Bauchi
The planned defection of Bala Mohammed from the People’s Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress has reportedly collapsed following failed negotiations.
Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State, Alhaji Samaila Burga, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Bauchi on Saturday.
According to Burga, the talks broke down over disagreements on the sharing formula and conditions presented by the APC.
He said the PDP leadership in the state was unwilling to make a hasty move that could place the party at a disadvantage, adding that some governors who defected to the APC were now regretting their decisions because they had lost political control.
Burga cited governors from Plateau State, Adamawa State, Rivers State, Kogi State and Kano State as examples.
He further stated that the PDP had intended to move into the APC with all its political structures while retaining a strong bargaining position, citing the administration’s performance in delivering democratic dividends in Bauchi State.
However, he described the conditions offered by the APC as “cancerous” and unacceptable.
Following the collapse of the talks, the PDP Chairman announced that the door is opened to the governor and PDP structures in Bauchi State to join other parties, including reconsiderring the African Democratic Congress, which had earlier shown interest.
However, a source told our correspondent that Governor Bala Mohammed may be reluctant to move to the ADC due to his frosty relationship with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The source added that the ADC is also facing internal leadership challenges that could create problems for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, making the governor and his camp cautious about the option.
