NANS Urges Tinubu to Consider Aisha Dukku for Foreign Affairs Minister

By Najib Sani, Gombe
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has proposed Aisha Dukku, a former Minister of State for Education and ex-Federal House of Representatives member, from Gombe State to replace Yusuf Tuggar as Foreign Affairs Minister, following his resignation on Monday.
Our correspondent reports that Tuggar resigned to pursue his governorship ambition in Bauchi State in the upcoming 2027 election.
North East coordinator of the association, Muazu Hina, in a press release issued to journalists on Tuesday, recommended Dukku for Tuggar’s replacement.
He commended “Dukku’s outstanding” contributions to national development, particularly “her impactful records in the education sector when she was a minister of education”.
“NANS North East notes that her tenure in the education space reflected commitment, experience and a deep passion for improving the standard of learning across Nigeria,” he said.
According to Hina, Dukku has demonstrated leadership, inclusiveness and dedication to grassroots engagement in her current role as a key figure in the Renewed Hope Ambassador movement in Gombe State.
“The association specifically acknowledges her contributions within the Renewed Hope Ambassador initiative in Gombe. Her efforts is instrumental in mobilising support and fostering unity among diverse groups, especially young people,” Hina stated.
However, NANS also called on Aisha Dukku to “further prioritise and deliberately include Nigerian students and youths in the activities and opportunities within the Renewed Hope Ambassador movement, ensuring that their voices, aspirations, and welfare are adequately represented.
“We appreciate the motherly role she continues to play in mentoring, guiding and supporting young people across the region and beyond.
“In light of her track record, NANS North East is calling on President Bola Tinubu to consider Dukku for appointment, specifically the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs which was a position previously occupied by a son of the north east because of her experience, leadership, and diplomatic exposure as qualifications for the role.
“We believe that her wealth of experience, leadership capacity, and diplomatic exposure make her a suitable candidate to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign relations and global standing,” Hina said.
