Defection Buzz: “I’m Now a Global Personality,” Says Bala Mohammed

From Paul Orude, Bauchi
Amid growing speculation over a possible defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has dismissed claims that he is under pressure to leave the opposition.
The governor made the remarks on Wednesday shortly after presiding over the swearing-in of 17 newly appointed Permanent Secretaries at the Government House, Bauchi.
Speaking briefly with journalists, Mohammed declined to confirm or deny the speculated move from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), but acknowledged the heightened political attention surrounding him.
“I find it amusing that even when I have not said anything officially, people are already discussing me as if I have moved. It shows the level of attention and relevance we carry. I am now a global personality all of a sudden,” he said.
Maintaining a calm and confident posture, the governor noted that discussions about his political future have continued to gain traction both within and outside the state, despite his silence on the matter.
While political observers interpret his measured response as strategic, Mohammed insisted that he would address the issue comprehensively at the appropriate time.
“There will be a time for that conversation. I will speak on it fully during a media chat by 7 pm on Channels Television,” he said., adding that he did not want to localise the issue.
The Bauchi governor, a prominent figure within the PDP, has in recent weeks been at the centre of intense political speculation, with reports suggesting he may be weighing options ahead of future political realignments.
Observers say his continued silence is fueling intrigue, particularly given his influence within the opposition and his perceived national political weight.
Meanwhile, the swearing-in of the 17 Permanent Secretaries formed a key part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and enhance service delivery across ministries.
Mohammed charged the new appointees to uphold integrity, professionalism, and accountability
