Nigeria’s Defence Minister Meets Service Chiefs Over Rising Insecurity

The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, on Wednesday convened a high-level security meeting with Nigeria’s service chiefs at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja to address the worsening security situation across the country.

The meeting comes amid growing concerns over a surge in violent attacks, particularly in Nigeria’s North-East region, where several military bases have reportedly come under assault by terrorists in recent days.

Security sources indicate that the session is focused on reviewing the recent incidents and strategizing on stronger responses to restore stability in the affected areas.

Among those in attendance are the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Sunday Aneke; and Chief of Naval Staff, Idi Abass.

The urgent meeting also follows the recent killing of three Nigerian Army commanding officers, all holding the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, during separate terrorist attacks in Borno State.

Representatives from other security and intelligence agencies, including the National Intelligence Agency, are also participating in the deliberations as authorities seek coordinated strategies to curb the escalating threats.
