Gov Kefas Resumes as New V.C Taraba Varsity
By Andrew Ojih, Jalingo.
Taraba state governor, Agbu Kefas will this week resume work as the new Vice Chancellor of the Taraba state University Jalingo.
The governor would also begin the recruitment of fresh lectures to enable students resume their academic activities.
Students of the University who spoke to our correspondent in Jalingo expressed their gratitude to the Governor over his decision to personally take charge of the institution.
A student from the department of Law told journalists that the decision of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State chapter to embark on indefinite strike action was wrong.
“We students are grateful to Dr Agbu Kefas that he has personally decided to resume work as the new Vice Chancellor of our school.
He has done his best to see that ASUU calls off their ongoing strike action but they refuse, they must understand that students cannot continue to stay at home and waste full academic year” he said.
He noted that the governor who recently released N1 billion out the N1.3b he inherited from past administrations has displayed humanity and love to both students and lectures.
“This man came and inherited backlog of salaries and his quest to give education top priority, he quickly approved release of one billion naira.
He also approved the release of two hundred and fifty million as dead benefits to lectures who have died.
He assured both academic and non academic staff that government will enroll them into the pension scheme and Asuu has not seen the gesture to call off the strike, we students are glad and solidly supporting his bold steps” he added.
He urged the governor to order for operation of single treasury account in the institution, adding that lack of financial accountability was part of what is run the University down.
Our correspondent report that massive work is currently going in the office where the governor would resume work this week.
