Fire destroys Catholic Church Cathedral in Taraba

A fire incident on Wednesday distroyed St. Mary Catholic Church’s Cathedral in Wukari, in Taraba State
The ugly incident which occur early hours of the night reduced the multi-million naira edifice to ashes.
The Director of Communications for the Diocese of Wukari Fr. John Laikei who spoke to journalists via telephone conversation said that the fire erupted shortly after the restoration of power in the vicinity.
He stressed that the St. Mary Catholic Cathedral, a significant landmark in Wukari, was entirely destroyed; however, he confirmed that there were no casualties.
He lamented that the incident was total setback for the diocese, noting that they remain in a state of shock.
“It was a scene of complete devastation, with flames engulfing everything. No roofs or furniture remain intact here.”
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, but I can confirm that it coincided with the restoration of power. I must also inform you that the authorities have yet to evaluate the damage” he added.
He expressed dismay over the absence of functional fire service vehicles in Wukari, and urged for immediate attention.
“This incident occurred just a few months after the Wukari local government secretariat was entirely consumed by a similar inferno” he noted.
