APC Sweeps Opposition Parties In Gombe As Over 1,200 Defect
By Najib Sani, Gombe
Ahead of the 2027 elections, over 1,200 wards and local government executives from the opposition New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Labour Party (LP) in Yamaltu-Deba local government area of Gombe State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday.
The defectors who were received by the member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Yamaltu-Deba local government federal constituency, Honourable Inuwa Garba in Lubo town, pledged to support the APC’s efforts to deliver more projects and services to the people of Gombe State.
Inuwa Garba, who facilitated the defection, expressed confidence that with such massive defections across the country, the APC would emerge victorious in the 2027 polls.
“We are here today in Lubo to receive all the executives under the NNPP, SDP and LP from wards to local government level in APC in solidarity with the laudable projects of APC government under Governor Inuwa Yahaya in Gombe State.
“With the wave of defections of opposition figures across the nation, APC will emerge victorious in the next 2027 polls in the country.
“The defection in Lubo was the most massive in the nation. This is a formidable success for the APC, and we will continue to work towards ensuring that our party remains the preferred choice of Gombe people,” he said.
SDP chairman Yamaltu-Deba local government, Tasi’u Isah Danrimi, who spoke on behalf of the defectors, expressed satisfaction with the representation of Inuwa Garba, but lamented the alleged political domination of the local government, saying it has been over 20 years since the area produced a senator.
“We recall that Yamaltu-Deba used to be very relevant in state politics, producing a governor when Gombe was under Bauchi State. We endorse the reps member for senator in the next election,” Danrimi said.
