Woman Seeks Justice After 10-Year-Old Daughter Allegedly Defiled by Foodstuff Seller in Bauchi
Police confirm arrests in three separate defilement cases involving girls aged 9, 10, and 11.

Zainab Danlami, a 40-year-old mother whose 10-year-old daughter was allegedly defiled by a foodstuff seller, Anas Adamu, in the Anguwan Fulani area of Wunti Dada, Bauchi Metropolis, has pleaded for justice.
The distraught mother spoke to Metoric Post at the Police Command Headquarters on Yandoka Road, where the suspect is being held.
According to Zainab, the incident occurred on October 13, when she sent her daughter to buy sugar.
“I am a mother of six. On that fateful day, I sent my daughter to buy sugar because my mother and I were preparing to break our fast. She forgot the money I gave her and came back without buying the sugar, so I told her to hurry since the prayer was not over,” she said.
“She was returning with the sugar when Anas intercepted her. My daughter told me he grabbed her mouth tightly and took her straight to his house because his wife was not around, and sexually abused her.
“She explained that he took her to his bedroom. She told me there was a bed and a mosquito net – and when we went there, we saw them. She said he removed her wrapper and tried to penetrate her, and she started shouting, but nobody heard her. The door was not closed, so she managed to run out.”
Zainab said she waited for her daughter to return and go to Islamic school with her friends, but she did not come.
“We were worried, so I told her friends to go ahead; if she came, she would follow them. On their way, they met her wailing, but she did not explain anything to them, so they followed her to my house. When I asked why she was crying, she told me everything.”
The mother then went to Anas’s house. The place was quiet — a secluded neighbourhood — but he was nowhere to be found. She called the community in Wunti Dada, and she was asked to come with her daughter.
“When we got there, they advised us to go to the police immediately. When we explained everything, the police took us to the clinic to run a test. As she lay down, I saw semen on my daughter’s private part. The doctor examined her and said Anas did not penetrate but tried to. What I saw that day, I was there; I saw everything.”
Zainab said she was unaware that Anas was having a romantic relationship with the victim’s elder sister.
“I called my daughter, and when she saw Anas at the police station, they started fighting. She was angry and asked him, ‘When did I become your girlfriend?’ It was obvious that he was lying.”
“My husband, who lives in Abeokuta, was very angry and sad when he heard what happened. We want justice for our daughter; that is all.”
She added that she used to buy foodstuff from Anas.
Police Confirm Arrest, Reveal Two Other Cases
Speaking on the development, SP Nafiu Habib, Police Public Relations Officer, said the Bauchi State Police Command has made significant progress in its campaign against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence with the arrest of suspects linked to three separate cases of defilement of minors across the state.
He described the cases — involving girls aged 9, 10, and 11 — as a painful reminder of the vulnerability of children and the urgent need for collective vigilance.
Habib said the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has expressed deep concern over the incidents and reiterated the Command’s resolve to ensure every child in Bauchi State is protected and that perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
The first case was reported on October 12, 2026, at Tilden Fulani Division, Toro LGA, by a mother who discovered that her 11-year-old daughter had been allegedly lured by a 47-year-old man, Auwal Ibrahim of Unguwar Sarkin Hausawa, with N500 into a narrow passage where he allegedly had carnal knowledge of her.
“The little girl was immediately rushed to General Hospital, Toro, for medical attention. While the suspect initially denied the allegation, detectives visited the scene, and intensive efforts are ongoing to ensure justice is served,” Habib said.
“In the second incident, a distressed mother from Gwallameji, Bauchi, reported at E-Division on October 13, 2026, that her 9-year-old daughter had been repeatedly lured into the room of one Sabitu Muhammed, 35, who allegedly had carnal knowledge of her on several occasions.
“The suspect has been arrested, the victim taken to the Police Clinic, Bauchi, for medical examination and support. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
“Similarly, on October 13, 2026, a 40-year-old mother from Wunti Dada reported at B-Division, GRA Bauchi, that her 10-year-old daughter, who was sent to buy sugar on the evening of the same day, was intercepted on her way home by one Anas Adamu, 22, of the same neighbourhood, who allegedly took her to his house and defiled her.
Police detectives promptly visited the scene, the child was taken to the Police Clinic for medical examination, and the suspect was immediately arrested.
“The Commissioner of Police condemns these acts in the strongest terms, describing them as inhumane, barbaric, and an assault on our shared humanity. He assures the victims and their families that the Command will pursue diligent investigation and prosecution to ensure justice is not only done but seen to be done.
“He further appeals to parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain vigilant, to closely monitor their children and wards, and to promptly report any suspicious behaviour or abuse to the nearest Police Station. The protection of our children is a collective responsibility.”
