Elder statesman Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, Adamawa state governor, Ahmedu Fintiri and his Taraba state counterpart,, Agbu Kefas weekend held a high-level security meeting with the Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, in Abuja.
The strategic engagement took place at the Federal Ministry of Defence headquarters as part of an efforts to strengthen federal–state collaboration against rising security threats in parts of Taraba and Adamawa States.
In a press statement issued by the Taraba State Commissioner for Information and Re-orientation, Barr Zainab Jalingo and made available to Journalists in Jalingo, the meeting was convened in response to renewed insurgent activities and isolated security breaches in border communities of both states.
The statement added that the closed-door dialogue underscored the urgency of coordinated action between federal and state authorities in addressing asymmetric security challenges and protecting vulnerable communities.
“Discussions at the session focused on reviewing ongoing counterinsurgency operations, reinforcing forward deployment strategies, enhancing inter-agency intelligence sharing, and accelerating the deployment of additional military assets to flashpoint areas,” it stated.
“Participants also examined operational gaps and community-based security concerns requiring immediate federal intervention”
The statement informed that governor Kefas reaffirmed the commitment of the Taraba State Government to safeguarding lives and territorial integrity.
It stressed that state governments must continue to work closely with federal security agencies to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace.
The statement maintained that Fintiri on his part emphasised the need for sustained operational momentum and proactive field dominance to neutralise emerging threats before they escalate into wider instability.
“The high-level engagement reflects a unified political and security front among key stakeholders and signals renewed determination to stabilise affected communities, rebuild public confidence, and consolidate peace across Taraba and Adamawa States,” it added.
“Also attendance were representatives of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff, members of the Africa Nature Investors team, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence” the statement stressed.
