Court Nullifies PDP’s November 2025 Ibadan National Convention, Bars Turaki-Led Faction

A Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Convention held on November 15, 2025, in the Oyo State capital, declaring the gathering invalid.
The court barred members of the Tanimu Turaki‑led National Working Committee (NWC) from parading themselves as national officers of the PDP.
Delivering judgment on Friday, January 30, 2026, the court also ruled that the Caretaker Committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the only recognised NWC of the party pending the conduct of a valid National Convention.
The ruling follows a prolonged leadership dispute within the PDP.
Some aggrieved stakeholders filed the suit at the Ibadan court to challenge the legality of the convention, arguing that the convention committee failed to address key issues concerning delegate lists and state congresses.
In late November 2025, a faction loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, and represented by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Samuel Anyanwu, also filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to nullify the Ibadan convention, arguing that it was held in “flagrant disregard” of subsisting court judgments and should be declared “null, void and of no effect.”
The Wike‑aligned faction’s suit also sought orders restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies from recognising persons elected or appointed at the Ibadan convention.
“The Caretaker Committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu is the only recognised NWC of the PDP,” the court stated, affirming that any actions by the Turaki‑led NWC lack legal backing until a properly sanctioned convention is held.
