2027: Taras Endorses Yakubu Dogara for Vice President, Calls for Religious Tolerance and National Unity

From Paul Orude, Bauchi
Honourable Winner Williams Taras has formally endorsed former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, for the position of Vice President in the 2027 general elections, describing him as a leader of integrity, courage, and inclusive vision.
Taras made the endorsement in a statement issued to the press on Friday, expressing strong confidence in Dogara’s capacity to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s unity, stability, and democratic growth.
According to him, Dogara represents the kind of leadership Nigeria urgently needs, one anchored on competence, character, and national interest.
He recalled Dogara’s principled stance in 2023 when northern Christians were unfairly sidelined in national leadership considerations. Taras said Dogara openly rejected religious bias at a critical moment, insisting that leadership selection must be based on merit rather than faith or ethnicity.
“Dogara’s position at the time was a bold reminder that Nigeria belongs to all, regardless of religion. He stood for fairness, equity, and justice when it mattered most,” Taras said.
Building on this, Taras called on Nigerians to embrace religious tolerance and national unity, urging citizens to view the country’s diversity as a source of strength rather than division.
He stressed that religion should serve as a tool for peace, love, and mutual respect, not exclusion or discrimination.
According to him, Nigeria’s progress depends on recognizing shared values that transcend tribe, language, and faith, noting that no nation can thrive where citizens are divided along religious lines.
Beyond national politics, Taras highlighted Dogara’s impact at the grassroots, citing his unwavering support for Jafaru Leko during a crucial political contest.
He noted that Dogara’s moral and strategic backing played a key role in the eventual victory, describing it as a practical demonstration of unity and fairness in action.
“Dogara’s support for Jafaru Leko went beyond politics. It was a clear expression of solidarity and justice, showing that true leadership is about uplifting others and creating opportunities for collective progress,” he added.
Looking ahead, Taras expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future under inclusive leadership. He also announced his intention to contest for the Senate to represent Bauchi South, pledging to advance justice, inclusive representation, and sustainable development for his constituents.
“Together, we can build Nigeria. Together, we can rise to greatness,” he concluded.
