Concerned Bauchi Citizens Backs Governor Bala Mohammed, Allege selective justice and political intimidation

A group known as Concerned Bauchi Citizens has declared its full support for Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulqadir Mohammed, following recent allegations leveled against him, describing the actions as politically motivated and a threat to democratic principles.

Speaking at a press press conference held at the NUI Secretary in Bauchi on Monday, the Coordinator of the group, Comrade Adamu Dauda Yashi, said the organisation was compelled to address the media to defend the integrity of the governor and the reputation of Bauchi State.

Yashi stated that opposition politics should never be used as justification for intimidation, harassment, or the alleged deployment of national institutions to target elected officials.

According to him, Governor Bala Mohammed and officials of the Bauchi State Government have faced sustained attacks despite the constitutional immunity enjoyed by sitting governors.

He described Bauchi as one of the safest states in Nigeria, attributing the relative peace to the governor’s leadership, inclusive governance, and commitment to security.

He questioned why a state enjoying peace and stability would be portrayed negatively, warning that such narratives could undermine public confidence and threaten stability.

The group also raised concerns about what it described as selective justice, noting that individuals at the National Assembly and within the Federal Executive Council have faced public allegations related to insecurity and terrorism financing without visible action taken against them.

“This raises serious questions about fairness and political bias in the application of justice,” Yashi said, adding that security issues should never be politicized.

He further referenced a past statement by the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, saying Nigerians are still awaiting clarity on the matter, which he argued has deepened public mistrust in anti-corruption efforts.

The group called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to uphold democratic values and the rule of law, reminding him of his own experience as an opposition governor.

It also urged the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, to intervene, stressing that peace in Bauchi State is critical to stability in the North East and the country at large.

The group reaffirmed its solidarity with Governor Bala Mohammed and the people of Bauchi State, calling for justice, equity, and national unity, while warning against political intimidation and selective enforcement of the law.
